Martha's Skirt

Martha & I have been very busy in the sewing dept, so look out for the next few days, as I will be posting a few new projects! Please don't fall over from the shock....

First on the list is a new skirt that Martha has made, and here she is doing the classic "selfie" shot in the mirror....I think she needs a few lessons from my teenagers on how to do a selfie ;-)
Hahaha, no seriously, she has done a pretty good job, all she was worried about was not getting her head in the photo, as she knew I'd be posting the photo on here! Hehehe...as if I wouldn't crop the photo?? Hmm...maybe ;-)

Back to the skirt....the skirt is gorgeous, as for info on the pattern or the fabric, I have no no idea. I must find all that out from Martha, and I will edit the post and add it in.....

Bling, bling, bling!

This is what I am playing with today, 16mtrs of black tulle & lots of red sequines = fun, fun, fun! All in aid of an annual fundraiser for MS. The event is on this Saturday, June 25th & I am responsible for the committee outfits of which I wear one, so they have to look good. Red is the colour of MS, so sequines it is!!

Look at all that fabric! I have just started so will show you the finished outfits in a few hours hopefully!! I may just have to get out the big girl camera for those shots as the sequins just don't like the iPhone.
See you all in a few hours, a few coffees & a few chocolates later....
PS: The outfits are done!! As much as I'd love to show you a photo, like I'd planned. I need to wait until after Saturday. Can't let the cat out of the bag. So I will post a photo on Sunday of just how good we all look!

Yummy yummy cookies & a mermaid skirt

Well here it is again, midnight & I am up and on the computer.

This afternoon I decided to make some cookies, so after a quick look in a couple of cookbooks, without success, I reverted to some good old Anzac biscuits. As I was rolling the mix, my sister popped in for a visit, and told me about a, " if all else fails" cookie recipe.

How good does this cookie dough look? Good enough to eat raw.....yes, I admit, I had a little taste, and it was divine!

Wow! So easy, so quick, so yummy & so so many cookies. I finished baking my anzacs, and started making these M&M cookies, that I have named "Mandys Cookies".

I know what you are thinking, and yes, it took a lot of hard thinking to come up with that name.

Here are the first two batches, on the tray ready to go in the oven.

And here they are just out of the oven....after 6 trays of cookies, I have enough cookies to feed the whole street. What a night all of my kiddies chose to have sleep overs at their friends houses, the night mumma decides to bake.

The recipe is below;

Mandys Cookies

4 cups Self Raising Flour
1 cup Brown Sugar
1 can condensed milk
500g softened butter
1 350g bag M&Ms or choc chips or white choc chips & Macadamias

Method
1. Combine softened butter & sugar in mixer.
2. Add flour, condensed milk & mix with dough hooks until combined. Do not over mix.
3. Add choccys of your choice & mix through with spoon.
4. Roll cookies to desired size & using a fork, flatten slightly.
5. Cook in moderate oven for 10mins
6. Cool on wire & enjoy.

My oven is fan-forced & I cooked mine for ten mins. The cookies were softish when I took them out, but hardened up within minutes. If you like them extra crunchy, bake for 15mins.

My niece Luella is turning 3 on Sunday & her mum is making her a mermaid cake. So of course I jumped up tonight & made her a cute little Mermaid skirt for her to wear on her birthday. The fabric is from Spotlight, very cute. I added a little pocket, so she can keep her little mermaid treasures in it.

Well, that is all for tonight.
Goodnight

I love Skirts!

I used to sew clothes when I was at school, and when the kids were little I would sew shorts & skirts for the kids and myself. Once I discovered patchwork, I ditched the clothes making, and just made quilts. Now I have discovered some gorgeous fabrics like Amy Butler & Heather Bailey's fabric ranges that just look fantastic made up into skirts with a crisp white shirt. Martha & I are addicted. We have bought oodles of fabric, and we are going to have skirts by the dozen this summer.

Martha and I made a wrap around skirt from some Amy Butler fabrics recently, and here is a photo of my sister Mandy wearing it. I gave it to her as a gift, and she was so excited she wore it to a party on the weekend. Here she is modelling the skirt for me.

Also, on the weekend, I made an a-line skirt from some Heather Bailey fabric I recently purchased. I wasnt entirely happy with the pattern, as it was very basic - no interefacing around the waist, and no waistband. I dont like how the skirt has no stability around the top, and so sits a bit funny. I could just add some, but hey, that would mean unpicking, and I HATE unpicking. I will just use this skirt to wear around the house on weekends. I just noticed the nice coloured shirt I had on while trying the skirt on for a photo, hmmm, it looks much nicer with a white shirt!

While finishing this skirt, my5yr old niece Olivia came to visit, and was fascinated by me making a skirt, and politely asked if I had any left over fabric just in case I wanted to make her a skirt tomatch mine! So I quickly whipped up a little skirt for her, it took like ten minutes flat! She was so impressed, and woe it all day. We then had to make barbie a skirt also, however, it was quite bodgy as I didnt have any little elastic, so poor old barbie had to have an ill fitting skirt.

You can see in this photo that Mermaid Barbie has her lovely skirt on to match mine and Olivias. We also then had to make her a shirt, so it is some fabric twisted & tied! Olivia thought it was wonderful.

Now, back to the sewing machine!

Some skirts for my neices

I made these two skirts for my nieces who are 2 (Luella) & 4 (Olivia). They love them so much that Luella (who owns the pink one) eats the little tassles off the bottom of the skirt, so her mummy has had to hide it from her until she is older! You may notice the skirts are pretty much the same size, Lu is a tall for her age and her older sister is petite for her age, hence the similar sizes. I got this gorgeous fabric from Etsy especially for them.

Another little skirt

I have been busy today and have cut out quite a few little skirts for Maddilen and for my two nieces. I think I went a little mad when I was buying fabric for a few skirts & PJ pants, as I have oodles of fabric still waiting to be used. Maddi will have a different skirt for every day of the month judging by the pile fabric on my sewing table!!

Anyway, I made this one this afternoon for my 1 year old niece Luella, but it's not really a favourite of mine. I wished I had used three different fabrics instead of using one fabric twice. Never mind, it will look cute on her anyway, and a lesson learnt.

Maddilens Skirt

I have finally worked out my new camera and so here is a photo of Maddilens new skirt. She has already put orders in for more skirts!
